For the Sandwich
  • 4 pieces Sub rolls or hoagie buns Choose fresh for best results.
  • 8 slices Provolone cheese Can substitute with mozzarella or cheddar.
  • 8 slices Salami Can substitute with turkey.
  • 8 slices Ham Swaps well with smoked turkey or chicken.
  • 8 slices Pepperoni Use turkey pepperoni for a leaner option.
  • ½ cup Banana peppers, sliced Can substitute with jalapeños.
  • ½ cup Black olives, sliced Can be omitted.
  • ¼ cup Red onion, thinly sliced Use green onions for a milder taste.
For the Dressing
  • ¼ cup Italian dressing Can substitute with vinaigrette.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning Can be substituted with dried oregano or basil.
For the Toppings
  • ½ cup Shredded mozzarella cheese Can be replaced with gouda.
  • 2 tbsp Butter, melted Olive oil can be used as an alternative.
  • 1 clove Garlic, minced Garlic powder can be used as a substitute.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise and place them cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Lay 2 slices of provolone cheese on each roll bottom.
  4. Layer 8 slices each of salami, ham, and pepperoni over the provolone.
  5. Distribute the sliced banana peppers, black olives, and red onion over the meats.
  6. Drizzle Italian dressing generously over each sub.
  7. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the vegetable and meat layers.
  8. Mix melted butter, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning in a small bowl.
  9. Brush the garlic butter mixture over the top of each roll.
  10. Add another slice of provolone cheese on top of each roll.
  11. Press the tops of the rolls onto the bottoms to compact the sandwiches.
  12. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cheese melts and tops are golden brown.
  13. Allow to cool briefly, then slice each sub in half for serving.
  14. Serve while hot, optionally with marinara sauce for dipping.
