Preparation Steps
- In a large bowl, combine the chicken thighs with vegetable oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, brown sugar, salt, white pepper powder, and five-spice powder. Mix and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix together the remaining white pepper powder, salt, and five-spice powder for the spice mix. Set aside.
- Add cornstarch to the marinated chicken in increments, stirring until evenly coated.
- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (176°C). Place the coated chicken in the basket, spray with oil, and air fry for 10 minutes. Flip, spray again, and increase the temperature to 400°F (200°C) for another 5 minutes or until golden brown.
- Transfer the cooked chicken to a bowl, sprinkle with half of the spice mix, and toss gently to coat.
- Garnish with fresh sliced basil and optional hot peppers. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
