Ingredients
  

Chicken Coating
  • 1 pound Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs Chicken breasts can be a substitute.
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch Potato starch can also be used.
  • to taste Oil Spray For even crispiness.
Marinade
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil Can substitute with canola or grapeseed oil.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Fresh is recommended.
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger Grated; use less ground ginger if substituting.
  • 1 teaspoon Brown Sugar White sugar can be an alternative.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt Adjust based on preference.
  • 2 teaspoons White Pepper Powder Regular black pepper can replace it.
  • 1/8 teaspoon Five-Spice Powder Omit if not available.
Garnishing
  • to taste Basil Optional.
  • 1 Lemon Wedges For serving.
  • to taste Sliced Hot Peppers Optional, for added spice.

Preparation Steps
  1. In a large bowl, combine the chicken thighs with vegetable oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, brown sugar, salt, white pepper powder, and five-spice powder. Mix and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the remaining white pepper powder, salt, and five-spice powder for the spice mix. Set aside.
  3. Add cornstarch to the marinated chicken in increments, stirring until evenly coated.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (176°C). Place the coated chicken in the basket, spray with oil, and air fry for 10 minutes. Flip, spray again, and increase the temperature to 400°F (200°C) for another 5 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Transfer the cooked chicken to a bowl, sprinkle with half of the spice mix, and toss gently to coat.
  6. Garnish with fresh sliced basil and optional hot peppers. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
