- In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together 3/4 cup of softened butter, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 3/4 cup of light brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add 1 large egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing until just combined.
- Gradually add the dry mixture, mixing on low speed until no flour streaks remain.
- Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips, distributing evenly.
- Scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough and drop onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 3-4 inches apart.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, until the edges are golden but centers remain soft.
- Immediately use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut around the warm cookies.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for about 5-7 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes
Use room temperature butter and eggs for easier mixing, and measure flour properly to avoid dense cookies.
