Step-by-Step Instructions for Elegant Black Forest Cake Roll
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 10x15-inch jelly roll pan by lining it with parchment paper and lightly greasing it.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs with granulated sugar until pale and fluffy, about 5-7 minutes. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  3. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually fold this dry mixture into the egg and sugar blend.
  4. Spread the batter onto the prepared pan and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cake springs back when lightly pressed.
  5. Turn the baked sponge out onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar and roll it into a log shape. Let it cool completely.
  6. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form, then set aside.
  7. Unroll the cooled cake, spread the whipped cream filling over it, sprinkle with chopped cherries, and roll it back up.
  8. Heat half a cup of heavy cream until it simmers, pour it over the chocolate and butter in a bowl, and stir until smooth.
  9. Drizzle the ganache over the assembled cake roll and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
  10. Slice the cake roll into neat portions and serve.
