Preparation Steps
- In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Grate half a sweet onion directly into the mixture and add Tabasco sauce. Mix until just combined; avoid overworking the meat.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions. With damp hands, shape into patties about ¾-inch thick and create a dimple in the center. Let them rest in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat, reaching around 400°F. Brush with oil to prevent sticking.
- Carefully place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes until a caramelized crust forms.
- Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes. Aim for an internal temperature of 160°F.
- Cut the burger buns and butter the insides. Toast them for about 1-2 minutes until golden and crunchy.
- Assemble by placing a warm patty on the bottom half of each toasted bun, adding lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and cheese if desired.
- Cap with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
