Method

Preparation Steps
  1. In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, chili flakes, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix to form a paste.
  2. Rub one tablespoon of olive oil onto the flank steak or sirloin. Generously apply seasoning mix, allowing to marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with one tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté sliced onions and bell peppers for 7-8 minutes until caramelized, adding minced garlic in the last 1-2 minutes.
  4. In the same skillet, cook the marinated steak for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare or to desired doneness.
  5. Remove the steak from the skillet and let rest for 5 minutes. Thinly slice against the grain.
  6. Mix mayonnaise and Dijon mustard in a bowl. Spread on sandwich rolls or hoagie buns, then layer with sliced steak, sautéed vegetables, and cheese.
  7. Preheat the broiler on high. Broil assembled sandwiches for 1-2 minutes until cheese melts, keeping a close watch.
  8. Add arugula or lettuce to each sandwich, close the rolls, and serve warm.
