Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions

  2. In a large pot, heat olive oil and add the yellow onions and baking soda. Sauté for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Add caramelized onions, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, mixing well.
  4. Add the ground meat to the mixture and fold in the beaten eggs gently.
  5. Transfer the meat mixture into the loaf pan, shaping it without packing too tightly. Bake for 55-60 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Remove from oven, top with reserved onions and shredded Gruyère cheese. Broil for 2 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
  7. Allow the meatloaf to rest for 15 minutes, then slice generously to serve.
